Skelaxin should not be used if you have ever had an allergic reaction to carisoprodol, meprobramate or tybamate.

Skelaxin Uses
Skelaxin is a muscle relaxant. Skelaxin is used to treat the pain and stiffness of muscle injuries, including strains, sprains and muscle spasms.
Skelaxin Directions To Use
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Skelaxin and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take Skelaxin exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Contact your doctor if skin rash or yellowing of skin or eyes occurs. Skelaxin may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Avoid drinking alcohol and taking other medicines that cause drowsiness(eg, sleeping pills, antihistamines) while taking Skelaxin. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Skelaxin. Do not stop taking Skelaxin without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider.
Skelaxin Warnings
Do not take Skelaxin if you have acute intermittent porphyria. Before taking Skelaxin, tell your doctor if you have liver disease. You may need a lower dose or special monitoring during your therapy. It is not known whether Skelaxin will harm an unborn baby. Do not take Skelaxin without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is also not known whether Skelaxin passes into breast milk. Do not take Skelaxin without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Skelaxin is not approved for use in children younger than 12 years of age.
Skelaxin Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Skelaxin, take as soon as remembered within 1 hour. Otherwise skip that dose and resume usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Skelaxin Overdose
Deaths by deliberate or accidental overdose have occurred with this class of drugs, particularly incombination with antidepressants and/or alcohol.
When determining the LD50 in rats and mice, progressive sedation, hypnosis and finally respiratoryfailure were noted as the dosage increased. In dogs, no LD50 could be determined as the higher doses produced an emetic action in 15 to 30 minutes.
Overdose Treatment: Gastric lavage and supportive therapy. Consultation with a regional poison control center is recommended.
Skelaxin Side Effects
Every medicine can cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Tell your health care provider or pharmacist if any of the following occurs: Severe- Allergic reaction (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chills; yellowing of the skin or eyes. Common- Nausea; vomiting; rash with or without itching; upset stomach; drowsiness;dizziness; headache; nervousness; irritability; tiredness.
Skelaxin Storage
Store Skelaxin at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.

Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Skelaxin may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking Skelaxin.
