Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to your brain. Cyclobenzaprine is used to treat pain, tenderness, and limited motion caused by muscle spasms.

This medication is used together with rest and physical therapy for short-term treatment (2 to 3 weeks). Cyclobenzaprine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Cyclobenzaprine Directions To Use

Cyclobenzaprine comes in 10 mg tablets, and the normal dose in adults is one 10 mg tablet three times daily. You should not exceed a total dosage of 60 mg of Cyclobenzaprine per day. It might be taken with food if stomach upset occurs. Take Cyclobenzaprine as directed. Do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed.

Cyclobenzaprine Warnings

Cyclobenzaprine may not be suitable for all individuals. If you have had any of the following conditions in the past, or are being treated for them now, please inform your doctor. In some cases side effects may be minimized by following your doctor's advice, but you may be advised not to take Cyclobenzaprine. Before taking this drug, tell your doctor if you have: glaucoma, an overactive thyroid gland, heart disease, difficulty urinating or any allergies. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding before taking this drug.

Cyclobenzaprine Side Effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
 •  Continue using cyclobenzaprine and talk with your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects:
 ·muscle weakness;
 · blurred vision;
 · drowsiness, dizziness, tired feeling;
 ·sore throat, cold symptoms.
 · heartburn, loss of appetite, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting;
 · dry mouth, increased thirst;
 · diarrhea, constipation, gas; or
 · feeling nervous or irritable;

 •  Stop using cyclobenzaprine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
 · confusion, weakness, lack of coordination;
 · nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
 · seizure (convulsions);

· fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeats;
 · chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
 · sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
 · sudden headache, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance;
 · feeling light-headed, fainting;
  · unusual thoughts or behavior, hallucinations (seeing things); or
 · easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness.

 •  Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Cyclobenzaprine Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Cyclobenzaprine Overdose

 •  Symptoms of a cyclobenzaprine overdose may include drowsiness, fast heartbeat, tremors or shaking, slurred speech, confusion, nausea, vomiting, hallucinations (seeing things), chest pain, or seizure (convulsions).
 • Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. An overdose of cyclobenzaprine can be fatal.

Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15-30°C (59-86°F) and out of reach of children.

Cyclobenzaprine may have life-threatening interactions with MAO inhibitors. Cyclobenzaprine may enhance the effects of alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants.
